2-0 in Guatemala

There’s only one way to follow up an intense climb up a volcano.  Here come the Irish!  We get NBC (for home games) on cable, but not ABC.  So a plan had to be devised for the Georgia Tech game.  Luckily, one of the ND Alumni Club members set up a gamewatch at a bar in Antigua.  Another club member gave us a ride to Antigua.  We rolled into town with 10 minutes to spare.  We couldn’t find a place to park, and she asked us if we wanted to get out and catch the start of the game while they parked.  I guess the look on my face must have said “yes!,” because she said “Go, no problem.”  It was quite surreal to be speed walking through the cobble-stoned streets of the ancient, colonial town of Antigua wearing our Gameday shirts to watch the Irish.

They had the game on for about 10 of us at the end of the bar, however the sound was not turned on.  The guy who set this up with the bar owner kept telling the bar tender that he was promised some volume.  He refused, so he called the owner and handed his cell phone to the bartender.  Then the music was turned down and the TV up!  We were all set.

It was played like our first game of the season, which is why most powers open with patsies like Western Kentucky.

As for the Penn State game, we obviously worked out a few kinks!  We were able to watch it on NBC in my apartment.  Another teacher went to Penn State and wanted to get together for the game, but we had to decline.  Hard to focus on the game while watching with annoying enemies!  Although, most Penn State fans have a lot more class than other opponents.

We have a short week ahead, as it's Independence Day down here on Friday.  We have 2 separate invitations to go to Lake Atitlan (aka, the "most beautiful lake in the world.").  One of them is from an ND club member, so hopefully we will get to watch the game at their lake house.  If not, I'm going to buy a vcr this week for a back-up plan!  Go Irish!!
