Sarah Hanging with El Presidente?
Third grade is going on another field trip. There are sure to be even more bodyguards there than last time, except they won't only be for my students. My guess is the majority of them will be a special type of guard similar to the "Secret Service." These men will be carefully guarding the most important politician currently in Guatemala... ![]()
Here's how it happened:
Monday morning started just like any other and I got a wonderful surprise that one of my thousand team meetings every week was cancelled. I took advantage of this time and began stapling spelling lists into my students' agendas. I finally get to the last one and I saw a note, written in English, from the parent of my newest student. I had to read it twice to make sure I was understanding it correctly.
"Hello, my husband spoke with President Berger and he said that Juan Carlos's* class (or grade) could come visit on a Monday. Could you please send four or five Mondays that would work for you. Thanks!"
I immediately called my spanish teacher over and showed her what it said (luckily her english is better than my spanish). I was so excited I also ran around to all the other third grade teachers to tell them about the newest field trip being planned.
I don't know yet when we'll be going but I am definitely going to do some reading about President Oscar Berger and also practice introducing myself in spanish, "Hola, Senor Presidente. Me llamo Sarah."
* Names have been changed to protect the identity of the student.

sounds like fun! i hope you learn more spanish and all goes well!
