Girl's Day- conquering the spa
I know that it is Thursday but it has taken me this long to recover from "girl's day" last Saturday. Myself and four other female teachers from school decided to take a recommendation from some friends and spend the day in Antigua at the Salon Bella Spa.
We left Saturday morning in mine and Ryan's favorite shuttle. We planned on hitting my favorite spot for breakfast, the Bagel Barn, but there was a line out the door! A total bummer but we quickly recovered and went to my second favorite breakfast spot, Cafe Condesa. There we had a large omelet and potato breakfast before heading to our spa appointments.
The full service spa offers several packages with different amenities as well as yoga and tai chi classes. The package I chose started with a full body massage. After the woman massaged all my sore muscles with oil she covered my knees, hands, and spine with hot rocks. After the hour long massage finished, I moved into the facial room and had several different masks lathered on and put under a steam machine. Over the next hour all my pores were thoroughly opened and cleaned. Following these first two treatments we decided to hit the sauna. While we sweated out all the bad stuff a woman brought us good stuff on a silver tray- chilled glasses with pitchers of ice cold water and sweet tea.
After several more trips in and out of the sauna and some fabulous lounging time in the gardens, I moved on to my manicure and pedicure. While waiting on my nails to dry, they washed, trimmed, and styled my hair all the while continuing to bring us different types of cold and hot tea as well as enough water to float us home.
Even though the spa was run with "Guatemalan efficiency" (a.k.a. NOT EFFICIENTLY) we had a marvelous time. The men can go climb their volcanoes anytime, we women decided that this choice of activities proves that women are intellectually superior.
Oh and I forgot to mention that all of the above cost me only Q600 which is roughly $80 US. Return trips are already in the works!!
