Popping the Question

Our heartfelt "congratulations" goes out to 2 awesome couples who announced their engagements over the Labor Day weekend.

Our good friend Todd Reffett popped the question during a romantic camping trip in upper peninsula Michigan.  I don't know what's more surprising about his now fiance, Andi:  that she talked Reffett into sleeping in the wilderness among scary critters, or that she said yes!  Check out this video clip to see the first moment that Todd and Andi found themselves in an unexpected embrace and felt their first spark.

This is the first time I've tried to embed a video, so if it doesn't work just click here.

Reffett, it's a good thing you weren't sitting next to Perzee at that game!  All kidding aside, Congratulations Todd and Andi!  You are an amazing couple and we can't wait for the wedding... and gentlemen, for another one of these!

The second couple with big news is my sister Erin and her boyfriend Ryan.  Ryan recently bought a house, and I think he realized he will eventually need someone to provide an alternative to the hideous maize and blue decorations.  He also looks much better when Erin dresses him:

Again, kidding aside, I couldn't be happier for my little sister.  Ryan is a perfect match and an absolute welcomed addition to the family.  As a Cardinals and Michigan fan, he has handled the inevitable O'Connor heat with class.  The question is... what was it about this moment over the weekend that drove him to drop to one knee?

Congratulations Todd, Andi, Ryan, and Erin.  You will be in our prayers.  May your marriage preparation bring some clarity to the joys, challenges, and responsibilites that lie ahead.

Congratulations on your engagement! After five weddings in the family this year, only one in 2008 will be a piece of cake. I think the Labor Day weekend was the perfect time for your engagement. After Notre Dame got crushed and Michigan got embarrassed, it is appropriate that you want to move toward the humbling experience of marriage. In marriage, you will have some wins and some loses, just remember that you are playing on the same team!! Love, dad

Congratulations to you guys too!! Where's the bachelor party??? I was worried that I would have to wait for Perzee for the next party--afterall, in 12 years I will be 70. Hugh Hefner is the only guy I know still partying after that. Hugh and I don't seem to have much in common, if you know what I mean!

Anyway, I really am happy for you two--I could see the chemistry even before the Notre Dame TD pass. But Andi, I wouldn't count on that doctorate degree in psychology to figure out Reffett. Some things are just too complex!! Good Luck, glen oc

Thank you Ryan, Sarah, and Dad! It means so much to me that you have all welcomed Ryan into our family from the very start of our relationship. Just be happy he has better taste in women than in athletic teams! We can't wait to have you there with us through all of the planning and especially the big day. I wanted a fall wedding, but as an O'Connor, I knew that scheduling a wedding during football season is simply not an option!

I'm with you Erin! Fall weddings are beautiful but don't compete with football! And not that kids are in either of our near futures but make sure you consider the fall football schedule when it comes time to deliver that baby. You want Ryan focusing on you, not worrying about whether he's gonna miss the game...

Congratulations again! We're REALLY REALLY excited for you!!! Enjoy the planning!
