Number 10,000
The Cubs aren't exactly synonymous with winning, but Sarah and I witnessed a historic victory this week in Denver. The Cubbies split a rare 2-game set with the Rockies, and we were there for game one.
Down one run at the end of 8 innings, I correctly predicted a clutch 2-run bomb by Aramis Ramirez to put the good guys ahead. Kerry Wood blew the save, but we manufactured a run in the 10th to win. Win number 10,000 was duly noted in the old scorebook. Only the Giants have won more games. The Cubs are the second winningest team in baseball history? Who knew!
It's always amazing how many Cub fans turn out for road games. Coors Field was half full of Cubbie blue, as "Let's Go Cubbies" rang out in the Rocky Mountain air. And they were out in full force as we walked through downtown to Union Station (yes, I've learned my lesson - we took the light rail to the game... no more parking at Coors Field for me, thanks.)
It was nice to see historic victory number 10,000, especially considering we're pretty sure both of our fathers witnessed number 5,000 back in 1940.
Go Cubs! C'mon, any team can have a bad century. This is the year!

Ran into one of my students before the game. Yes, Rolando got
extra credit for the hat.

A Soriano sighting. Hey Lou, when he comes back please keep
this guy out of the lead-off spot!

Wow, what a great game that must have been. Looks like a beautiful day in the mile high city.
I bet you won't have as much fun in Dublin Ohio this summer.
best regards,
Dave Kingman

What do you think Glen? Looks to me like 2 educators should be able to subtract ages from the current year. Back when we had to walk 7 miles to school in 4 feet of snow, our teachers taught us our numbers. Guess today that is out of the curriculum, having been replaced by i-poding, texting, and googling. I could write more, but alas my moat is overflowing again. See Ya
