Lucky?!
After the Irish survived the heart-stopping, life-shortening final two minutes of chaos against Navy yesterday, I heard this refrain from both the usual talking heads and Irish fans alike:
"Boy, Notre Dame was sure lucky to win that one!"
What?! Are you kidding me? Notre Dame was the lucky one? Get a grip, people!
Navy was held to their lowest rushing total in 60 games.
Navy was outgained by their opponent's first string by over 200 yards in 3 1/2 quarters.
Navy's opponent lost 8 players to injury, including both their best on offense and defense.
Navy was the recipient of 4 turnovers.
Navy's opponent cleared the benches with over 9 minutes left.
And this one takes the proverbial cake:
Navy recovered not one, but TWO ONSIDE KICKS in the last minute and a half!
You wanna talk about LUCK? Navy pulling off that game would have been the miracle of all miracles! They were LUCKY they didn't lose 48-7.
Don't talk to me about Notre Dame being lucky to win a game in which they pounded their undersized, albeit respectable, opponents into oblivion.
