Bold. Faced. Lies.

As he's done in a few recent interviews, President Obama last week looked Congress and the American people in the eye and said, "No federal dollars will be used to fund abortions."

Yikes!

I'm well aware of the track record for politicians on words of transparency vs. deceitful mincing.  However, this one is particularly disturbing.  Many conservatives have pointed to a whole list of word-plays, if not bold faced lies, in the speech, but how he has the guts to stand up there and deny the abortion coverage in his health care plan is downright scary.

First of all, we're dealing with some pretty readily accessible facts here.  The passed Capps Amendment to HR 3200 reads..."the public health insurance option shall provide coverage for... abortion services."  Read it and weep.

As for the Senate bill, pro-abortion senators like Barbara Mikuski (D-MD) have admitted over and over that the bill covers abortion.

If abortion is not covered by the plan, why has even mainstream media confirmed that it does?  (See AP, Factcheck.org, and even Time Magazine!)

If abortion is not covered by the plan, why have several amendments to the bill (explicitly excluding abortion coverage) been shot down and prevented from even reaching a vote by Obama and the Democrats?

Why do all of these pro-life Congressmen feel the need to exclude something that isn't there?

If abortion is not covered, why aren't Planned Parenthood, NARAL and company - who have been fighting for universal abortion coverage for decades - campaigning to get it added to the bill?  They've been pretty quiet until recently when they are pleading to KEEP coverage in the bill.

And given Obama's radical stance on abortion and his status as the PP/NARAL poster-child, do we really even need to read the bill to know that abortion coverage would be the last thing on which he would compromise?  (I pray I'm wrong on this!)

In fact, just take a listen straight from the horse's mouth...

If you cannot use the above player, watch here.

Michigan pro-life Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak's interview today is a must-see.  My favorite line comes at the end:  "If [Pelosi] really believes [abortion funding is out of the bill] then give me my amendment [explicitly banning it].  If anything my amendment would just be redundant. Just give me my amendment then."

If you cannot use the above player, watch it here.

I cringe when I hear Obama's latest strategy to quote Bible verses while talking to Christian and Jewish leaders opposing a bill that would drastically expand legalized murder.  "You are bearing false witness" ... and he even said, "We are God's partners in matters of life and death."  Seriously?

Here's a verse he might want to keep in mind:  "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness."  (Isaiah 5:20)

I noticed that the USCCB seems to be taking the perspective of, "Hey, you said no Abortion, AWESOME! We totally support you. And, of course, as the President and a man of integrity who would not be so foolish as to say one thing and then contradict yourself by your actions that are being monitored by thousands of information hounds out there, you will do your job to ensure that Abortion is not provided for in any bill that crosses your desk." I thought it was an interesting take.

I just did some surfing on NARAL's website to see how they reacted to the comments of President Obama. They aren't too happy. Check out the article at http://bit.ly/2wCMHi and the comments about the statement are at the very end of the article.

Also, if you haven't done so, you should check out NARAL's site. I have never seen the word "choice" used in so many different ways and in so many different phrases. I think they have an intern who scans every document released on their website, and whenever possible, they delete "abortion" and write "choice".

A house divided against itself will not stand.

A great quote on their blog from an abortion doctor: "enacting pro-choice policies and electing pro-choice politicians is essential to protecting choice, but without providers, the right to choose is effectively meaningless." They realize the threat is not just in the legislation and allowing for abortion to happen, but also the free and government-supported availability of this service. This is where the truth comes in. Because if you share the truth, there is hope that enough people will realize that to "abort" something means "to stop", and what abortion is stopping is life. Stopping life = murder. There. That wasn't too hard.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Vigilance and truth are key. Keep up the good work!
